National Youth Orchestra of the USA featured on NPR’s “From the Top”

Marin Alsop and the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA) are featured on a broadcast of National Public Radio’s From the Top with Host Christopher O’Riley, the long-running radio show focusing on young musicians. The episode was recorded for a live audience at Purchase College, State University of New York, in July 2017. The From the Top episode can be heard by podcast and on stations nationwide during the week of October 30 and airs on WQXR 105.9 FM on Saturday, November 4 at 6 a.m. and on Classical WMHT on Saturday, November 4 at 5 p.m. The broadcast includes an excerpt from Apu: Tone Poem for Orchestra, a Carnegie Hall-commissioned work by Gabriela Lena Frank, as well as selections by Mahler and John Adams, performed by the NYO-USA. The broadcast also features interviews, personal stories, and chamber music played by members of NYO-USA. The National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America is a program of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute that brings together musicians ages 16-19 from across the country each summer.
