National Symphony to livestream “The Gospel According to the Other Mary” on March 10

The National Symphony Orchestra’s March 10 performance of John Adams’s The Gospel According to the Other Mary will be livestreamed for free by medici.tv from the Kennedy Center Concert Hall. Music Director Gianandrea Noseda will conduct the concert, which will be preceded by a panel discussion. Both the 6:30 p.m. panel discussion and the 8 p.m. performance will be streamed live and will be available for 90 days afterwards. Adams’s Passion oratorio is being performed as part of Direct Current, the Kennedy Center’s two-week focus on contemporary music and art. The panel discussion, “The Ministry of Mary Magdalene,” will investigate themes underpinning the oratorio and the ways they resonate today. Featured participants are composer John Adams; Sister Helen Prejean, the influential death penalty abolitionist whose book Dead Man Walking inspired the film and opera; Yolanda Pierce, dean of the Howard University Divinity School; and Susan Timoney, secretary for pastoral ministry and social concerns for the Archdiocese of Washington. The panel will be moderated by Sherry Davis Molock, associate professor of psychology at George Washington University. Click here for more information and to watch the livestream.
