The Riverside County Philharmonic in California announced that it has selected five finalists to fill the position of music director, which has been vacant following the death of Patrick Flynn in September 2008. The names of those under consideration are Lawrence Leighton Smith, Ransom Wilson, Tomasz Golka, Heiichiro Ohyama, and Andrew Grams. Beginning with Smith, who conducted the orchestra’s “Monster Talent” concert on January 24, each conductor will lead at least one concert during the following eighteen months. The winner of the auditions will be announced in 2010 at the conclusion of the orchestra’s fiftieth season.
