DAVID S. GROSS has been named executive director of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra. He goes to Charleston from the Lansing (Mich.) Symphony Orchestra, where he had served as executive director since February 2007. A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, Gross began his orchestral career as a musician, holding the principal timpani post at the Kansas City Philharmonic (forerunner of the Kansas City Symphony) and subsequently with the Grand Rapids (Mich.) Symphony. While in Michigan he also headed the department of percussion studies at Grand Valley State University.
