Students from two public high schools in Nashua, New Hampshire are part of Ripple Effect, a yearlong, multidisciplinary project with the Nashua Symphony that begins with student poetry workshops and ends with the March 14 world premiere of Three Songs for a New World, a new work for chorus and orchestra by Kevin Siegfried, a composer based in Dover, New Hampshire. Artwork by students created in response to their peers’ poetry will be displayed at the concert. The composition focuses on the world’s changing environment and will be performed at the concert along with Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Trumpets in C major, RV 537. Eric Valliere, the orchestra’s executive director, said of the Ripple Effect program, “One of my goals early on was to involve students in the creation and performance of the new musical works. I am thrilled that the select Concert Choirs from Nashua High North and South—directed by Julia Oliver and Sophia Santerre—got to workshop the new piece with the composer as it was being created in the fall.” Those choirs will join the Nashua Symphony Chorus and string orchestra for the March 14 performance.
