During Lincoln Center’s 50th-anniversary season, eight orchestras are scheduled to perform on the Great Performers series from October 14 to May 22, beginning with the American Symphony Orchestra’s opening-night opera-in-concert presentation of D’Indy’s Fervaal, led by Leon Botstein. During the season, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg, and Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra also will appear, performing works of Adams, Bartók, Beethoven, Bernstein, Brahms, Mahler, Ravel, Schubert, Schumann, Shostakovich, and Tchaikovsky. Ivan Fischer will conduct the complete symphonies of Beethoven with the period-instrument Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and modern-instrument Budapest Festival Orchestra on consecutive evenings in March 2010 at Alice Tully Hall. Pictures Reframed, a Lincoln Center commission, will feature pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and visual artist Robin Rhode in a presentation of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. Jordi Savall’s Jerusalem project will bring together Palestinian, Israeli, Syrian, Greek, Turkish, and Armenian musicians for two concerts exploring the city’s Muslim, Jewish, and Christian musical heritage; Chopin’s 200th birthday will be marked with a four-part Chopin on Film series and recitals by pianist Garrick Ohlsson; and the Emerson String Quartet’s three Adventures in Bohemia programs will feature music of Dvorák, Janácek, and Martinu.
