Seven composers and six orchestras have been selected to participate in the Music Alive program, which encourages the commissioning and performance of music by living composers. The six residencies (which range from three weeks to three years), set to begin during the 2009-10 season, are George Tsontakis with the Albany Symphony Orchestra (two seasons); Lowell Liebermann with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra (one season); Randall Woolf with Fulcrum Point New Music Project (one season); Jin Hi Kim and Augusta Read Thomas with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra (two seasons); Michael Daugherty with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra (one season); and Robert Paterson with the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association (three seasons). Music Alive, currently in its tenth year, is a joint program of Meet The Composer and the League of American Orchestras. Participants are chosen by an independent panel of composers, musicians, and orchestra officials.
