On the eve of Ellen Taaffe Zwilich’s 70th birthday, New York’s 92nd Street Y will present the world premiere of her Septet for Piano Trio and String Quartet. The work, written for the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio and the Miami String Quartet, is scheduled for its debut performance on April 28 at the 92nd Street Y. The septet was commissioned by a consortium of twelve organizations: the 92nd Street Y, the Abe Fortas Chamber Music Concerts of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; Kent/Blossom Music (Ohio); Chamber Music Society of Detroit; Regional Arts at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts (West Palm Beach, Florida); Philharmonic Society of Orange County; Ruth Eckert Hall (Clearwater, Florida); Denver Friends of Chamber Music; Friends of Chamber Music, Portland, Oregon; Virginia Festival of the Arts; Duke Performances (North Carolina); and Hudson Valley Chamber Music Circle. Next season at the 92nd Street Y, Central Europe will serve as a theme for multiple concerts, including those by pianist András Schiff, who will perform keyboard works of Franz Josef Haydn and will appear in the Y’s “Words & Music” series with Hungarian author Péter Esterházy. “Hungarian Accents” concerts will spotlight writers and composers such as pianist Zoltán Kocsis, the Keller Quartet, and cellist Miklós Perényi.
