Youth Orchestras of San Antonio has announced the appointment of TROY PETERS as music director and conductor, effective August 2009. He will succeed MARION CHEN, who is retiring at the end of this season and relocating to Paris. Peters is currently music director of the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association, a post he has held since 1995. He also serves as music director of the Montpelier Chamber Orchestra and conductor of the Middlebury (Vt.) College Orchestra. Peters has led numerous district, regional, and all-state youth orchestras around the U.S., and before going to Vermont held posts as assistant conductor of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and staff conductor at the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association, among others. Also a composer and versatile instrumentalist, he is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and the University of Pennsylvania.
