The University of Minnesota School of Music has announced a deadline of June 30 to submit orchestral works for its 2009 Craig and Janet Swan Composer Prize. The single prize-winning work will receive $2,500 and a world premiere in December 2009 by the University of Minnesota Symphony Orchestra, led by Mark Russell Smith. The School of Music also will invite the winning composer to the Twin Cities campus for rehearsals and composer master classes. The university holds the competition annually, in a continuing rotation of works for chorus, wind ensemble, and orchestra. For more information on the competition, email Douglas Geers, visit the music department website, or call 612-626-8742.
