The Boston Landmarks Orchestra, under artistic director Charles Ansbacher, will present nine free concerts on Wednesday evenings at DCR’s Hatch Shell this summer, as well as The Story of Frederick Law Olmsted, a commissioned work about the renowned landscape architect, responsible for New York’s Central Park and Boston’s chain of parks known as the Emerald Necklace. The new piece, by Boston-area composer Thomas Oboe Lee, will be performed at four children’s concerts in Codman Square (Dorchester) and the Boys and Girls Club of Boston’s Yawkey Club in Roxbury. (The orchestra has commissioned works for children for the past seven years.) The Olmsted concerts are co-presented by the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, the Esplanade Association, Emerald Necklace Conservancy, Friends of Fairsted, and National Park Service/Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site. Other summer plans for the orchestra include collaborations with the Youth Orchestra of the Americas, which is in residence at New England Conservatory this summer; Boston Lyric Opera; the Longwood Symphony Orchestra; and the New World Chorale.
