“Peter Oundjian makes a point of introducing his audiences at Roy Thomson Hall to music in a casual yet informative way,” writes John Terauds in Saturday’s (5/2) Toronto Star. “So the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s music director jumped at the opportunity to participate in a special, 11-part ‘Inside the Music’ series that begins tomorrow at noon on CBC Radio Two (94.1 FM in Toronto). With host Eric Friesen, a long-time CBC Radio voice cast aside in last fall’s programming and staff changes, Oundjian will talk about what makes 11 symphonic works special. The 55-minute shows, titled Peter and the Symphony, are scheduled to air every Sunday to July 12. Tomorrow’s show features Symphony No. 44 by Haydn. The series concludes with Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 on July 12. … Oundjian says he and Friesen would sit down with the producer for three hours a day before each episode was recorded to flesh out the direction each conversation would take, and pick recordings that would illustrate the main themes. If there is a common thread running through the 11 episodes, Oundjian thinks it’s the counterpoint of ‘tragedy and jubilation.’ ”
