In Tuesday’s (5/5) Courier News (Bridgewater, New Jersey), Mark Spivey reports, “The state’s oldest community symphony has selected Charles Prince as its first new music director in more than 20 years. Prince will make his debut with The Plainfield Symphony during a celebratory 90th anniversary gala concert scheduled to be held Oct. 10 at the city’s Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, succeeding retiring music director Sabin Pautza, who will become the group’s conductor emeritus. … Prince was selected out of a pool of dozens of candidates and six finalists who served as guest conductors for performances over the symphony’s past two seasons. He is best known as associate conductor for the New York Pops between 1996 and 2003, and since then has spent time conducting orchestras in Germany and Bulgaria. … Prince also has extensive experience with orchestras in the United States, including stints with the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the Oregon Symphony Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the Utah Opera Festival.”
