The four winners of “Fidelity FutureStage at the Boston Pops” competition for Boston public school students have been announced: soprano AnJalique Perry; pianist/vocalist Chris Middleton; The Underground Trio; and the Grieg Quartet. The winners, who play in styles including classical, jazz, blues, and pop, will perform with the Boston Pops at Symphony Hall on May 20. In addition to showcasing the student musicians, the concert will feature a film tribute to the late Harry Ellis Dickson, the Boston Pops’ longtime assistant and associate conductor. Michael Dukakis, the former Massachusetts governor and Dickson’s son-in-law, will narrate Copland’s Lincoln Portrait at the concert. The high school musicians come from the Roland Hayes School of Music, Boston Latin School, and Boston Arts Academy, and were chosen following a citywide search. The judging panel for the competition included staff from the Boston Pops and First Night, Boston, as well as arts and entertainment news anchor Joyce Kulhawik; Alex Alvear, arts and culture program manager for the Boston community-building agency IBA (Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción); and soprano and conductor Susan Davenny Wyner. The Fidelity FutureStage program was established by Fidelity Investments in 2006 and supports music and other arts-education programs, with school-age programs in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and North Carolina.
