Washington’s Yakima Symphony Orchestra has named four finalists for its open music director position: Lawrence Golan, Phoenix; Viswa Subbaraman, Houston; Nikolas Caoile, Ellensburg, WA; and Huw Edwards, Olympia, WA. Each of the four will spend a week in Yakima and conduct a concert during the orchestra’s 2009-10 season. The vacancy comes following the decision by the orchestra’s current music director and founding conductor, Brooke Creswell, to retire. The orchestra plans to announce its selection of a new music director in April 2010, after the four finalists have conducted and completed their residencies in Yakima. The Yakima Symphony Orchestra was established in 1971 and gives four concerts per season.
