Anne Ewers, president and CEO of the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia, has announced the appointment of JAMES EDWARD CAMBRON as executive director of the center’s inaugural international arts festival, scheduled to take place from April 7 to May 1, 2011. Funded by a $10-million grant from the Annenberg Foundation, the festival will be the first of its kind in the region, encompassing all eight of the center’s resident companies and more than 50 other performing, educational, and visual arts organizations across the city. Cambron, whose appointment takes effect July 1, has been a key member of The Philadelphia Orchestra’s senior staff for more than twenty years. Since 2003, as the orchestra’s vice president, marketing and public relations, he has introduced a series of communications and audience development initiatives and implemented new electronic and online distribution outlets for the orchestra. In his new job Cambron will work closely with Kimmel Center executive and senior management as well as Artistic Producer BARBARA SILVERSTEIN and additional festival staff to be recruited in the coming months.
