In Wednesday’s (7/8) New York Times, Daniel J. Wakin reports, “Lincoln Center officials plan to return the organ to the newly refurbished Alice Tully Hall in June 2010, they said on Tuesday, allaying the fears of organists. The instrument, a personal gift of Ms. Tully, was removed for the hall’s renovation and was originally to have been restored along with it. But delays left Tully Hall organless when it reopened in February, with no timetable or money designated for the instrument’s return.” Some organ aficionados had expressed concerns about the organ’s return. “On Tuesday, Kerry A. Madden, Lincoln Center’s vice president for concert halls and operations, said that money had been found in the complex’s redevelopment budget for the organ’s reinstallation. Tully will be closed in June 2010 for four or five weeks for the main part of the work, he said, with further adjustments to be made when the hall is not in use. The complete job should be finished, he added, by the early fall.”
