Metropolitan Museum’s 2009-10 music events

The Metropolitan Museum in New York City has announced details of its 2009-10 season. Among the offerings are chamber music and CONTACT new-music concerts, both part of an ongoing partnership with the New York Philharmonic; highlighted composers in those concerts include Arlene Sierra, Arthur Kampela, Marc-André Dalbavie, Lei Liang, Sean Shepherd, Nico Muhly, and Matthias Pintscher. New York Philharmonic Music Director Alan Gilbert and Composer in Residence Magnus Lindberg will conduct members of the New York Philharmonic. Seven pianists will perform in the PianoForte series: Yefim Bronfman, Peter Orth, Rafal Blechacz, Paul Lewis, Alexei Volodin, Nikolai Lugansky, and Till Fellner. The museum will present two concerts by Itzhak Perlman and members of the Perlman Music Program; MMArtists in Concert and Musicians From Marlboro will each perform two programs; clarinetist Anthony McGill, soprano Monica Yunus, bass-baritone Terry Cook, and pianist Caroline Stoessinger will perform a program of works by Schubert and Schumann. Vocal performers include Chanticleer, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Dianne Reeves, and Lionheart. Rock musician Patti Smith and her daughter, Jesse Smith, will perform “A Salute to Robert Frank, Artist and Friend,” in connection with the museum’s exhibition “Looking In: Robert Frank’s The Americans.”
