The New York Pops announced that it is offering seven music tracks for free download at its website for a limited time. The music available for download—taken from the live broadcast of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks on NBC—includes the world premiere of Broadway composer Stephen Flaherty’s American River Suite. That work featured Music Director Designate Steven Reineke leading the Pops and vocal soloists Audra McDonald and Idina Menzel, violinist Sara Caswell, and the Choir Academy of Harlem. Also at the orchestra’s website for download are two of Reineke’s own arrangements: River Medley (“Proud Mary,” “Shenandoah,” “Ol’ Man River”) and Americana Medley (“Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “This Land Is Your Land,” “America the Beautiful,” “Stars and Stripes Forever”), both of which were also performed on July 4. The Pops says its future media projects include producing a nationally syndicated radio series and performances for PBS.
