A report in Thursday’s (7/23) Ottawa Citizen states, “The Ottawa Chamber Music Society has received a grant of $213,000 from the federal government’s Marquee Tourism Events program to assist with promoting the 2009 Ottawa Chamber Music Festival and attracting tourists, the government announced Wednesday. The festival opens Saturday and continues through Aug. 8, presenting more than 90 concerts and other events in downtown churches and outdoor venues. … Chamber Society Executive Director Glenn Hodgins estimates that about 10 percent of the 50,000 people who attended the festival last year were from out of town. He says the grant will support projects that include advertising the festival in other Canadian cities and U.S. border cities, recent improvements to the festival’s website and online ticketing systems and some free outdoor music events to be presented in conjunction with the Rideau Canal Festival Aug. 1 and 2.”
