In Sunday’s (8/2) Saratogian (Saratoga Springs, New York), Judith White writes, “Emanuel Ax and Yo-Yo Ma, two of the world’s most revered classical musicians, will be the featured performers at the Saratoga Chamber Music Festival’s anniversary celebration honoring Maestro Charles Dutoit. Festival Director Chantal Juillet lists Ax and Ma performing Beethoven’s Sonata No. 4 for cello and piano at the Aug. 11 event in Spa Little Theatre, but wouldn’t divulge plans for the rest of the program. … Dutoit has conducted the annual three-week residency of the Philadelphia Orchestra since 1990 at Saratoga Performing Arts Center, serving as artistic director and principal conductor. Last season, after his appointment as the Philadelphia Orchestra’s chief conductor and artistic director, Dutoit came to SPAC to lead his own ensemble. Cellist Yo-Yo Ma will switch to SPAC’s large amphitheatre stage Aug. 12, the evening following the Chamber Festival’s celebration, to play two full concertos with Dutoit and the Philadelphians. That program will begin with the second performance of Behzad Ranjbaran’s ‘Saratoga’ Overture, which was enthusiastically received at its world premiere in 2005.”
