The Van Cliburn Foundation announced that it will host its second Cliburn YouTube Contest for Amateur Pianists, beginning September 1, 2009. Applicants must submit five- to ten-minute video performances recorded within the last six months, to be judged by online viewers. The YouTube contest is open to classical pianists at least 35 years old who do not derive significant income from performance, composition, or piano instruction. Video entries will be accepted through November 2, 2009 and be posted at Cliburn’s YouTube channel. Voting at the Cliburn website will close on November 24, 2009. The winner will be entered into the sixth International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs, set to take place in May 2011 in Fort Worth, Texas. More information on the contest is available here.
