A report in the Arts in Brief section of Tuesday’s (8/11) Pantagraph (Bloomington, Illinois) states, “The Illinois Symphony Orchestra Guild of Bloomington/Normal has won an Award of Excellence in the annual Gold Book Online competition sponsored by the Volunteer Council of the League of American Orchestras. The guild’s project, titled Symphony Celebrities and which took place last October, raised $48,000 to benefit the Illinois Symphony’s concerts and educational programs. The annual Gold Book Online competition recognizes outstanding projects created and executed by volunteer associations of symphony orchestras throughout the United States and in Canada. The next Symphony Celebrities will be Oct. 24 at the Doubletree Hotel in Bloomington. The event features hors d’oeuvres, dinner, silent and live auctions, and pre-dinner activities including games and prizes.” A total of nine Gold Book Online awards were given this year by the League’s Volunteer Council; the complete listing may be found at http://www.goldbookonline.org/.
