Wednesday (8/19) on the West Virginia Public Broadcasting site, Mona Seghatoleslami writes, “Symphony orchestras often have guests—virtuoso violinists and concert pianists—but this weekend, the Huntington Symphony is trying something a bit different. Over the past year, the Huntington Symphony has tried new ways of reaching out to the community offering economic stimulus ticket deals and American Idol-style voting to select the music for future concerts. … And now—NASCAR. … NASCAR is a big deal—its TV audience second only to football—but what will NASCAR at the symphony look and sound like? A lot of the activities will take place before the concert and at intermission.” NASCAR driver Brett Rowe will sign autographs at intermission, and there will be driving and pit-stop simulators for visitors to try. “Cars and driving will also be featured in the musical selections, according to [Symphony Executive Director T. Hogan] Haas. … The Huntington Symphony’s ‘Picnic with the Pops: NASCAR at the Finish Line’ concert takes place at Harris Riverfront park this Saturday.”
