The Amarillo Symphony in Texas is among the orchestras implementing special ticketing offers for the 2009-10 season. The orchestra will offer reduced-price subscription tickets during a “blowout 85-hour sale” celebrating the orchestra’s 85th anniversary, beginning at midnight on August 25 and ending at 1 p.m. on August 28. The orchestra is offering the tickets at its website amarillosymphony.org, at the box office on Polk Street, and by telephone. Subscriptions for prime seats—$259 in the orchestra level and $258 in the balcony—will be sold during the sale for $185, and orchestra-level seats normally priced at $161 will go for $140. The Amarillo Symphony and Music Director Kimbo Ishii-Eto will open the fall season on September 25, with Bartók’s Rhapsody No. 1 and Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante (K. 364), with violinist Joan Kwuon and violist Joel Smirnoff; Smirnoff will also guest-conduct Dvorák’s Symphony No. 9 (“New World”).
