The San Diego Symphony has just released a new recording titled Never Far Away under the Telarc label, featuring Jahja Ling leading the orchestra and Yolanda Kondonassis in the music of composer Bright Sheng. The title track, Never Far Away, Concerto for Harp and Orchestra, was co-commissioned by the San Diego Symphony, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra, and the Oberlin Conservatory, and received its world premiere last October in San Diego’s Copley Symphony Hall. Never Far Away also includes Sheng’s Shanghai Overture, Tibetan Love Song and Swing, and music from his ballet The Nightingale and the Rose.
