The Rockford (Ill.) Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of DANIEL BLACK as conductor of the Rockford Symphony Youth Orchestra. He is currently a doctoral candidate in orchestral conducting at Northwestern University. Black holds a master’s degree in conducting from Eastman School of Music, a diploma in symphonic/operatic conducting from Russia’s St. Petersburg Conservatory, and a bachelor’s degree in composition from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His compositions include works for horn and orchestra, wind ensemble, and brass quintet. Black has also performed on flute and has served as clinician and score reader for several orchestras including the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra and the UW-Madison Summer Music Clinic.
