The Phoenix Youth Symphony (formerly known as the Phoenix Symphony Guild Youth Orchestra, but not affiliated with The Phoenix Symphony) has appointed BENJAMIN ROUS music director. Also a composer and violinist, Rous is now in his second season as assistant conductor of The Phoenix Symphony. He served previously as assistant conductor of the Princeton (N.J.) Symphony Orchestra and as a preparation conductor at Manhattan School of Music. Rous attended Harvard College as a composition major, conducting Harvard’s Bach Society Orchestra during his senior year. He subsequently studied conducting with Kenneth Kiesler at the University of Michigan and at Aspen’s American Academy of Conducting under David Zinman and George Manahan. As a violinist Rous has performed in the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and in Bologna’s Orchestra Mozart.
