The Florida Orchestra, headquartered in St. Petersburg, has announced the appointments of EMILY McCLAIN as development director and TRAVIS NEWTON as operations director. McClain had previously served as the orchestra’s operations director, a post to which she was appointed in 2006. Prior to joining The Florida Orchestra she spent four years in operations at The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. She holds a master’s degree in musicology from Indiana University and a bachelor’s in cello performance from the University of Kansas. Newton, the orchestra’s new operations director, served most recently as managing director of music at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York. Before that he held various administrative posts—operations manager, education manager, and director of community engagement—with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. Newton holds a bachelor’s degree in violin from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro.
