Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship, founded in 2002 by Marin Alsop to foster and encourage women who are training to be orchestral conductors, has named MIHAELA CESA-GOJE as its 2009 conducting fellow. Her fellowship includes an honorarium, several weeks of conducting training with Alsop over a two-year period, additional weeks with other established conductors, and in-depth exposure to the orchestra industry in such areas as marketing and public relations, fund raising, and artistic planning. This fall Cesa-Goje will also conduct the opening work on an October 11 concert by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra during Alsop’s subscription week with that orchestra. A 30-year-old native of Romania, Cesa-Goje received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Romania’s Gh Dima Music Academy, where her studies were focused on orchestral and choral conducting. She currently serves as principal conductor of the Targu Mures International Classical Guitar Festival and has guest conducted several orchestras in eastern Europe.
