In Sunday’s (9/13) Star Tribune (Minneapolis), William Randall Beard writes, “Most people aren’t aware of the treasure trove in the basement of Landmark Center. But the contents of the Schubert Club Museum are seeing the light of day. An expansion onto Landmark Center’s second floor is underway. Opening in November, the new space will allow the museum to better display its extensive collection of manuscripts and letters. To highlight that collection, the Schubert Club is presenting ‘Signature Songs,’ a weeklong series of free noontime recitals exploring music by composers whose papers are part of the museum’s holdings. ‘Signature Songs’ is the latest incarnation of the Schubert Club’s annual Summer Song Festival, usually held in early summer. … There are five concerts featuring music from some of the giants of the song repertoire: Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Brahms, Debussy and Fauré. A sixth concert highlights the club’s commitment to new music, with song cycles by Abbie Betinis, Edie Hill and a world premiere by Jeffrey Van.” The Schubert Club is a non-profit organization that promotes recital music through performances, education, and museum programs.
