Artistic: Purchase Symphony

Purchase College of the State University of New York has appointed MICHAEL ADELSON conductor of the Purchase Symphony Orchestra. Also music director of the Gemini Youth Orchestras (Melville, New York) and the Preparatory Philharmonic Orchestra at Mannes College of Music, Adelson has guest conducted such orchestras as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinski Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, and Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. He served as assistant to conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen for Messiaen’s St. François d’Assise at the Salzburg Festival. Adelson is also a composer, lecturer, and author, currently at work on a book for non-musicians on the art of conducting. He received his training at New England Conservatory, Mannes College of Music, and as a conducting student of Jorma Panula at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
