The Nashville Symphony is releasing Metropolis Symphony this week, its first recording under new Music Director Giancarlo Guerrero, and it is holding a CD-signing party to celebrate the occasion. The Naxos CD features two works by Michael Daugherty—Metropolis Symphony and Deus ex Machina; he and Guerrero will be in attendance at the party, on September 30 at Flying Saucer, a Nashville brewpub. Metropolis Symphony pays tribute to Superman, with movements devoted to characters including Lex Luthor and Lois Lane. Deus ex Machina, a piano concerto commissioned by the Nashville Symphony and four other orchestras—the Charlotte Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, Syracuse Symphony, and Rochester Philharmonic orchestras—features Terrence Wilson as soloist.
