In Thursday’s (10/1) Orange County Register (California), Richard Change writes, “Arts Orange County held its 10th annual awards program last week at the Orange County Performing Arts Center’s Samueli Theater. It was the first time the ceremony—which celebrates yearly and lifetime achievements in the arts—was held at that Costa Mesa venue. The 2009 award winners were Robert Becker, principal violist for Pacific Symphony, for outstanding artist; the Chance Theater of Anaheim for outstanding arts organization; the Hal and Jeanette Segerstrom family for outstanding philanthropist; and South Coast Plaza for outstanding business philanthropist.” Pacific Symphony Music Director Carl St.Clair received a Helena Modjeska Cultural Legacy Award for lifetime achievement. “The honorary chairpersons for the Sept. 23 program were Phil and Mary Lyons, and the event chairwoman was Janet M. Ray. The emcees were soprano Robin Follman and Richard Stein, executive director of Arts Orange County.”
