The Virginia Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of ROBERT W. CROSS as interim executive director. A member of the orchestra’s percussion section since 1981, and its principal percussionist since 1987, he has also served for the past fourteen years as executive and artistic director of the Virginia Arts Festival. At the Virginia Symphony, Cross has held numerous posts including personnel manager, artistic administrator, orchestra manager, and general manager. He is a graduate of New England Conservatory. The orchestra has formed a search committee to identify a permanent successor to CARLA JOHNSON, who resigned as president and executive director in September.
