SARAH HICKS, assistant conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra since 2006, has been named the orchestra’s principal conductor of pops and presentations. The appointment, effective immediately, calls for her to lead the orchestra’s U.S. Bank Pops Season for a term of four years, through the 2012-13 season. A native of Tokyo who grew up in Honolulu, Hicks is also associate conductor of the North Carolina Symphony.  Previous conducting posts include associate conductor, Richmond (Va.) Symphony; resident conductor, Florida Philharmonic; and assistant conductor, Reading (Pa.) Symphony Orchestra. She holds a bachelor’s degree in composition from Harvard University and an artist’s diploma in conducting from the Curtis Institute of Music.
