In Saturday’s (10/17) Rochester Democrat and Chronicle (New York), Anna Reguero writes, “The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s season next year will begin a three-year celebration of principal conductor Christopher Seaman’s tenure with the RPO. Seaman, 67, also the orchestra’s music director, on Friday announced that he will resign after the 2010-11 season. He said it was important to leave at a peak in his time with the RPO. … Seaman said he will expand on guest conducting opportunities around the world, especially Europe. He also plans to write a book. … Seaman’s musical legacy with the RPO includes three internationally released recordings with the RPO, collaborating with Van Cliburn winners Jon Nakamatsu and Olga Kern; nationally recognized awards for programming and leadership such as two ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming and a New York State Governor’s Award; conducting high-profile guest artists; and building unique community programs such as the popular Symphony 101 program that helped demystify classical music for both new and expert music lovers.”
