The Wilmington (NC) Symphony Orchestra will perform the world premiere of Tekeeyah at Kenan Auditorium of University of North Carolina in Wilmington on October 24; the Brevard (NC) Philharmonic will follow with a performance on November 15 at the Porter Center of the Performing Arts of Brevard College, and the University of South Carolina Symphony Orchestra will perform the work on November 17 at the Koger Center for the Arts in Columbia, South Carolina. Tekeeyah, described as the first concerto written for shofar/trombone soloist and orchestra, was commissioned by a consortium of orchestras. The Western Piedmont Symphony (Hickory, NC) and Dayton (Ohio) Philharmonic Orchestra, two of the other commissioning orchestras, also will perform the work at dates yet to be announced.
