The National Endowment for the Arts and OPERA America will launch this year’s National Opera Week on November 14 with a presentation of its 2009 Opera Honors at the Harman Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. This year’s honorees are Marilyn Horne, John Adams, Frank Corsaro, Lotfi Mansouri, and Julius Rudel. National Opera Week, from November 13 to 22, will include free open houses, lecture/demonstrations, and community performances at more than 90 companies in 32 states and the District of Columbia. Among the week’s events are the fifth annual Opera News Awards on November 19 and the November 22 annual Richard Tucker Music Foundation Gala, which showcases promising young singers; both will take place in New York City. During National Opera Week, the Metropolitan Opera will provide free access to Met performances on Met Player, its online streaming service. National Opera Week was created to bring opera to a broader national audience.
