The Boston Symphony Orchestra reports that sales made through its website have surpassed the $50 million mark, since launching in 1996. In the fiscal year completed in fall 2009, the site had received more than 7.5 million visitors, compared with 6.3 million visitors for the year ending in fall of 2008. The BSO’s Web revenue so far for the current season—September 1, 2009 through August 31, 2010—is 31 percent ahead of last year’s revenue to date, with particular strength in areas including winter season concerts, holiday pops concerts, donations, and college-card ticket sales. Since launching in December 2008, the BSO’s Digital Music Service has had more than 55,000 downloads of recordings of current and historic BSO concerts, as well as Pops, Chamber Players, and Tanglewood Music Center recordings.
