In Tuesday’s (11/17) Patriot-News (Harrisburgh, Pennsylvania), David N. Dunkle reports, “Stuart Malina, currently celebrating his 10th anniversary as conductor of Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, has agreed to remain at the podium for at least five more years. HSO officials announced that Malina has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him in the post of music director through the 2014-15 season. … Malina, a native of Scarsdale, N.Y., who studied conducting at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, came to HSO for the 2000-01 season. He previously was music director for the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra in North Carolina. Malina earned a Tony Award in 2003 for his orchestration work on the Billy Joel musical Movin’ Out, and in 2007 he conducted the New York Pops in his debut at Carnegie Hall. HSO executive director Jeff Woodruff said Malina’s rapport with audiences and artistic leadership make the maestro a valuable asset.”
