NPR, Midgette look back at a decade of classical music

Tuesday (11/17) on NPR’s website, Tom Huizenga states, “The world of classical music is fairly far off the radar screen for most people in this country. Still, there are huge numbers of passionate classical fans, posting on dozens and dozens of classical blogs and chat rooms, downloading everything from Beethoven to Bang on a Can, and attending operas, symphonies and chamber music concerts. I asked Anne Midgette, the classical music critic of the Washington Post, to join me for a glance back at the last ten years, to remember the bumps in the road, a few milestone events and the trends that emerged out of a flurry of changes.” Discussion topics range from ticket sales to changing composer styles to how the internet is affecting both the recording industry and how artists market themselves.
