A report Sunday (11/22) on WGHP-TV Fox 8’s website (Winston-Salem, North Carolina) states, “The Winston-Salem Symphony held a food drive at its concert Sunday to honor a Greensboro composer. In its Peace, Fate and Remembrance Concert Sunday afternoon, the Orchestra performed ‘The Peace Overture.’ Russell Peck, who died in March 2009, wrote the piece more than 20 years ago. Concert-goers brought food to the Stevens Center for the first of two concerts by the Winston-Salem Symphony. Peck worked much of his life to end world hunger. Camille Jones, Marketing Director for the Winston-Salem Symphony, said the concert was the least it could do to honor Peck. ‘This is just a small way that we can remember Russell. In addition to playing his music, we can honor what he spent his life doing and that is to help people who need food.’ Jones said.”
