The Minnesota Orchestra has announced that six of its 2009-10 concerts will be broadcast on the U.K.’s BBC Radio 3. The first broadcast—aired in England and streamed on the internet on December 8—will be of the orchestra’s November 6 concert at Orchestra Hall, led by Music Director Osmo Vänskä. That concert included the world premiere of Kalevi Aho’s Minea; Stravinsky’s Song of the Nightingale; Bernhard Crusell’s Clarinet Concerto No. 2, with soloist Burt Hara; and Strauss’s Suite from Der Rosenkavalier. Five additional concerts will also be aired, including a November 13 concert of Sibelius and Beethoven (December 9 on BBC3); a February 19 concert of Beethoven, Chopin, and Mozart, with guest soloist Garrick Ohlsson (February 26); a February 26 all-Sibelius concert (March 18); a May 28 concert of Dvorák, Bartók, and Stravinsky, with violin soloist Christian Tetzlaff; and a June 4 concert of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7 and Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto, with pianist Yevgeny Sudbin (June 10).
