Nominations have been announced for the 52nd annual Grammy Awards, set to take place on January 31, 2010 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Among the orchestras nominated for best classical album are the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (Bernstein Mass, Naxos), San Francisco Symphony (Mahler Symphony No. 8, SFS Media), Boston Symphony Orchestra (Daphnis et Chloé, BSO Classics), and Nashville Symphony Orchestra (L’Enfant et les Sortilèges, Naxos). In the category of best instrumental soloist performance with orchestra, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project was nominated for Derek Bermel’s Voices for solo clarinet (BMOP/sound), and the Los Angeles Philharmonic was nominated for Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Piano Concerto (Deutsche Grammophon). The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s Transmigration on the Telarc label was nominated for best surround sound album, and Tiempo Libre’s Bach in Havana album on Sony Classical was nominated for best tropical Latin album.
