The Pacific Symphony in Orange County, California, has appointed MICHAEL DAUGHERTY composer-in-residence for the 2009-10 season. In this capacity he will oversee the orchestra’s American Composers Competition for emerging wind-ensemble composers; appear at a Family Musical Mornings concert, where selections from his Metropolis Symphony will be performed; and participate in various community engagement projects, blogging activities, podcasts, and media events. His choral-orchestral work Mount Rushmore, commissioned by the Pacific Symphony, will be premiered in February 2010 during the Orchestra’s American Composers Festival.
