Conductor GEORGE MANAHAN has been appointed director of orchestral activities at Manhattan School of Music, effective in September 2010. In that capacity he will serve as principal conductor of the MSM Symphony, MSM Philharmonia, and MSM Chamber Sinfonia and participate in administering the school’s orchestral program. Manahan will also be accepting a limited class of conducting students. A member of MSM’s orchestral conducting staff from 1977 to 1985, he is now in his twelfth season as music director of New York City Opera and has appeared as guest conductor with numerous orchestras, festivals, and opera companies in the U.S. and Europe.
