The Louisville Orchestra has appointed DEREK RATZENBOECK assistant chair in the second violin section. The post had been vacant since the end of the 2007-08 season, when MARCUS RATZENBOECK (brother of Derek) went on tour with the rock band Tantric. Derek Ratzenboeck has performed in Europe with the Vienna Mozart Philharmonie, Germany’s Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, and Italy’s Lucca Music and Opera Festival, and in his native Florida with the Sarasota Music Festival, the Sarasota Orchestra, and the Florida Orchestra. He was concertmaster of the Florida All State and Florida West Coast youth symphonies, and is a two-time winner of the Florida West Coast Symphony’s Young Artist Competition. Ratzenboeck holds a bachelor’s degree in violin performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and a master’s in violin performance from the University for Music and Theater in Munich.
