DANIEL BERKOWITZ has been named manager of Youth Orchestra Los Angeles, an initiative of the Los Angeles Philharmonic that provides instrumental and orchestral education to underserved communities in the L.A. metropolitan area. In this position he will be instrumental in enhancing the relationship between Youth Orchestra Los Angeles and the national El Sistema USA organization. Berkowitz is a member of the inaugural class of New England Conservatory’s Abreu Fellows program. A trombonist, he received a bachelor’s degree in music and economics from Northwestern University, and furthered his instrumental studies in London. Berkowitz has led masterclasses in China, performed across Europe, Asia, and the U.S., and served on the staff of the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts and Northwestern University’s National High School Music Institute.
