The Seattle Symphony has announced the appointment of seventeen-year-old conductor ALEXANDER PRIOR as assistant to the guest conductors, a new post created by Seattle Symphony Board Chair Leslie Jackson Chihuly. This is the first professional appointment for Prior, who has guest conducted orchestras in Europe and Russia and is one of twelve participants selected for the International Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition scheduled for next month in Bamberg, Germany. He recently completed his fourth year at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in his native Russia, and will further his training as a conducting fellow at the 2010 Tanglewood Music Festival. In April of this year Prior makes his conducting debut with London’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
